At Cambodia Lifestyle, we love learning about creative ventures that bring a fresh perspective to life in the Kingdom. Recently, we sat down with Marion, the founder of Soben, a Siem Reap-based brand crafting handmade, sustainable bed linens. From a personal need to a growing business, Soben is making waves in Cambodia’s homeware scene. Here’s what Marion had to share about her journey and vision.

Cambodia Lifestyle: Marion, tell us about your project—what inspired you to create Soben, and how has it evolved so far?

Marion: I’m the founder of Soben, a brand dedicated to handmade bed sheets and home linens crafted in our small workshop in Siem Reap. The name “Soben,” meaning “dream” in Khmer, reflects our mission: to bring comfort and serenity to homes with thoughtfully designed bedding.

Soben started as a personal project. When I moved to Phnom Penh in 2022, I couldn’t find bedding that met my standards for comfort, aesthetics, and quality. Frustrated, I bought a sewing machine and began making my own sheets and even some clothes using linen fabric. What started as a small experiment reignited a long-held dream of creating a brand rooted in sustainability, quality, and thoughtful design.

Before launching Soben, I spent a year as a project manager at Melon Rouge, a creative agency in Phnom Penh. That experience helped me better understand the local market and build the confidence to turn my ideas into reality. With my background in digital communication, and marketing, and a passion for creative projects, I felt ready to make the leap into entrepreneurship—with the support of a friend who shared my vision.

Cambodia Lifestyle: How long has Soben been running, and what have been the key moments so far?

Marion: Soben just celebrated its first year! We started prototyping in January 2024 and launched our first collections in April. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and the response has been very encouraging.

Moving to Cambodia provided the perfect opportunity to pursue this dream. The vibrant local textile industry, skilled artisans, and a growing demand for sustainable, thoughtful products made it the right time and place.

Some highlights include the amazing feedback from our customers and the support from retailers in Phnom Penh. Connecting with people who resonate with our work and values has been so rewarding.

Find more Things To Do in Cambodia

Looking ahead, I’m focused on launching our e-shop to make Soben accessible to more people while staying true to our commitment to local craftsmanship. I also hope to grow a community around the values of slow living and sustainable consumption.

Cambodia Lifestyle: What do you love most about running Soben?

Marion: The best part is combining creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability in everything we do. Every piece tells a story—from the natural fabrics we source locally to the traditional techniques we use in our workshop.

We focus on quality over quantity, which is why we mainly work to order, depending on fabric availability. Each piece is handmade in our small workshop in Siem Reap, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and fair working conditions.

Linen, our primary material, is sustainable and timeless. It’s not just beautiful—it also has unique properties like regulating temperature, which makes it ideal for Cambodia’s hot climate.

Discover more Arts & Culture in Cambodia

What makes it even more special is the connection I’ve built with my seamstress, Sreyneang. Her talent and dedication are at the heart of our success. Knowing that our work supports local artisans while reducing textile waste is incredibly fulfilling.

Cambodia Lifestyle: Why should people choose Soben? What makes your products stand out?

Marion: We spend so much of our lives in bed, and quality bedding can make a huge difference in our well-being. Our sheets are made from linen and linen-cotton blends, which are breathable, durable, and incredibly soft—perfect for a good night’s sleep in Cambodia’s warm climate.

Beyond comfort, our bedding transforms bedrooms into inviting, elegant spaces. And because we use deadstock fabrics from Cambodia’s textile industry, every piece is sustainable and unique. By choosing Soben, customers invest in ethical, high-quality products that align with their values.

Cambodia Lifestyle: How does Soben contribute to the local community?

Marion: Our impact extends beyond creating beautiful bedding. By sourcing unused fabrics from Cambodia’s textile industry, we reduce waste and support local suppliers.

Our workshop in Siem Reap provides fair employment to talented Khmer women. By offering fair wages and fostering skill development, we’re helping create economic independence within the community. As Soben grows, I’m excited to expand the team and deepen our positive impact.

For consumers in Cambodia, Soben offers a much-needed alternative to synthetic bedding. Our products are not only climate-appropriate but also thoughtfully designed for those who value sustainability and quality.

Cambodia Lifestyle: Finally, what keeps you inspired to grow Soben here in Cambodia?

Marion: Cambodia holds a very special place in my heart. I moved here by chance, but it quickly became home. The warmth, creativity, and resilience of the people inspire me every day.

Starting Soben has been a challenging but rewarding journey, and I’m grateful for the support of my family, friends, and the local community. Siem Reap, in particular, has been the perfect environment for both personal and professional growth.

What is Anchor Beer? A Look at Cambodia’s Brewing Landscape https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/what-is-anchor-beer/ Wed, 11 Dec 2024 08:57:17 +0000 https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/?p=14050

Anchor Beer is one of the well-known beers in Cambodia, but it doesn’t necessarily hold the top spot in the market. While it enjoys a solid fan base, it competes with several other beer brands, both local and international, for the attention of Cambodia’s beer drinkers.

In this article, we’ll look at what Anchor Beer is, its competition, how it’s sold in Cambodia, and its place within the country’s beer scene.

A Brief History of Anchor Beer

Anchor Beer first arrived in Cambodia in 1991 through Cambodia Brewery Limited, which is also behind other popular beers such as Angkor Beer and Cambodia Beer. The company aimed to offer a smooth, easy-to-drink lager suitable for Cambodia’s hot climate. Anchor Beer quickly found its place in the market, thanks to its affordable pricing and refreshingly light taste.

While it didn’t immediately dominate the scene, Anchor Beer steadily grew in popularity. It is now widely available throughout Cambodia, in everything from local beer gardens to high-end restaurants. The introduction of variations like Anchor Draft and Anchor Strong has allowed the brand to cater to different preferences, keeping its appeal fresh.

Anchor Beer’s Position in Cambodia’s Market

In terms of market share, Anchor Beer is up against some stiff competition. Angkor Beer and Cambodia Beer, both brewed locally, are far more popular and have a stronger foothold in the Cambodian market. Angkor Beer, in particular, is often regarded as Cambodia’s most iconic beer, widely available and heavily marketed, both locally and internationally. Cambodia Beer, which was introduced later, also enjoys widespread recognition and has been one of the leading brands in the market.

Despite these challenges, Anchor Beer has maintained a loyal customer base, especially among budget-conscious beer drinkers. Its ability to offer a reliable, affordable product makes it a go-to choice for many Cambodians. The cost of Anchor Beer typically ranges from $1.00 to $1.50 USD for a 330ml bottle in most bars and restaurants, which is consistent with many other local beers, making it a competitive option in terms of price.

Rival Brands and Their Impact

Anchor faces intense competition from a few key brands in Cambodia. The top three contenders are Angkor Beer, Cambodia Beer, and Heineken, which, despite being a global brand, has made significant inroads into the Cambodian market.

Angkor Beer, brewed by the Cambodia Brewery Limited (the same company behind Anchor), is by far the most popular beer in the country. It is often regarded as a symbol of Cambodia and has a strong association with national pride. Its dominance in the local market means that Anchor Beer, while popular, plays second fiddle to Angkor.

Cambodia Beer is another major local competitor, produced by Cambodia Brewery Limited as well. Known for its crisp flavor and wide availability, it also has a loyal following, particularly among Cambodians who prefer a slightly less bitter taste than Angkor.

On the international side, Heineken and other imported beers like Tiger Beer and Budweiser have grown in popularity, especially in urban areas and among tourists. These beers tend to be slightly more expensive than the local offerings, but their international recognition helps them maintain a place in the Cambodian beer market.

Smile Mini Mart: A Local Gem in Cambodia’s Convenience Store Scene https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/smile-mini-mart-a-local-gem-in-cambodias-convenience-store-scene/ Tue, 26 Nov 2024 12:00:10 +0000 https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/?p=13921

When you think of convenience stores in Cambodia, big-name chains like Circle K or 7-Eleven might come to mind. However, tucked away in various neighborhoods across Phnom Penh and beyond, there’s a lesser-known but equally beloved store that locals and expats alike swear by: Smile Mini Mart.

Offering a combination of friendly service, competitive prices, and a diverse range of products, Smile Mini Mart has become a go-to spot for those in search of quick snacks, household essentials, and even a taste of home.

And no, 7-Eleven have not yet taken over.

A Taste of Local Convenience

Smile Mini Mart may not boast the international brand recognition of its competitors, but it’s a firm favorite among locals for its down-to-earth atmosphere and its commitment to providing the essentials. As a small, independent convenience store, it offers a wide array of everyday items, from snacks and beverages to toiletries and cleaning products. The store’s charm lies in its simplicity—there’s no over-the-top branding or flashy promotions, just a focus on delivering exactly what customers need.

Whether you’re in the mood for a quick snack, a cold drink, or even some international treats you can’t find anywhere else in Phnom Penh, Smile Mini Mart has got you covered. You’ll find everything from locally-produced items, such as Cambodian chips and sweets, to imported goods from neighboring countries and beyond. It’s the perfect place to grab something on the go, especially if you’re in the mood for a familiar comfort food from home.

Interestingly the company were previously in Timor-Leste with talks of expanding back there due to the current close Cambodia- Timor relations.

Affordable Prices with No Surprises

One of the key factors that sets Smile Mini Mart apart from its larger competitors is its affordability. While many convenience stores in Cambodia tend to inflate prices on imported goods, Smile Mini Mart offers more reasonable rates, making it a practical choice for everyday shopping. From a quick bottle of water to a ready-to-eat meal, the store ensures that even those on a budget can find what they need without breaking the bank.

Additionally, Smile Mini Mart keeps its shelves stocked with a variety of affordable, local products that cater to the needs of its diverse clientele. For expats, this is an ideal place to pick up a little taste of home at a fraction of the price found in bigger, more upscale stores. For Cambodians, it’s an essential stop for household staples that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

Friendly, Personal Service

Another standout feature of Smile Mini Mart is its exceptional customer service. Unlike the larger chains that can sometimes feel impersonal or corporate, Smile Mini Mart prides itself on offering a more personalized shopping experience. The staff is always ready with a smile, offering friendly greetings and quick service to make every visit pleasant.

Smile Mini Mart

This small, family-run store atmosphere is a rarity in the modern age of convenience stores, where self-checkouts and digital payment options often replace human interaction. At Smile Mini Mart, you’ll find the opposite—warm, welcoming service that reminds you that shopping doesn’t always have to be a rushed, transactional experience. It’s that kind of attention to detail that keeps customers returning time and time again.

Locations Across Phnom Penh

While Smile Mini Mart may not have the nationwide reach of some larger convenience store brands, its presence in key locations across Phnom Penh makes it a reliable option for city dwellers. Whether you’re in the bustling central districts or tucked away in quieter residential areas, there’s likely a Smile Mini Mart nearby that can meet your needs.

Given the store’s popularity among expats, it’s particularly common to see Smile Mini Marts near local expat communities or business districts. If you’re in Phnom Penh and find yourself in need of a quick snack, a drink, or any other essential, a quick Google search will most likely point you in the direction of your nearest Smile Mini Mart.

Click the link for Battambang Street Food.

The Bottom Line: Smile Mini Marts Enduring Appeal

What makes Smile Mini Mart a standout in Cambodia’s convenience store landscape is its ability to offer the best of both worlds: quality products at affordable prices, combined with exceptional customer service. It’s this blend of practicality and warmth that has made it a favorite among locals and expats alike. So, the next time you find yourself wandering through Phnom Penh and in need of a quick pit stop, keep an eye out for a Smile Mini Mart—you won’t be disappointed.

Zabolicious: Handmade Treats with a Heart in Cambodia https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/zabolicious-handmade-treats-with-a-heart-in-cambodia/ Thu, 21 Nov 2024 07:39:51 +0000 https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/?p=13882

“My roots are in Germany, and Christmas baking is an eventful occasion for the whole family, from the children to the grandparents,” says Julia, the passionate baker behind Zabolicious, an online bakery in Phnom Penh. Baking has been a part of her life since childhood, igniting a love for creating and designing sweet treats that continues to inspire her work today.

While her weekends in Germany were spent baking for family and friends, her career as a human resources manager kept her creativity confined to personal time. “For me, it’s important to maintain old family traditions and at the same time create something unique with my own ideas,” she explains. Over time, requests from friends and neighbors grew, and Julia realized that baking was more than just a hobby—it was a calling.

Her love for Asia drew her to Cambodia two years ago, where she decided to transform her passion into a full-fledged business. “While emigrating to Cambodia, I decided to pursue my passion professionally and started my own small online bakery in Phnom Penh, called Zabolicious.”

Building a Business with Love

Every creation at Zabolicious is infused with Julia’s personal touch, and her dedication to her craft shines through in every detail. “It is very important to me to maintain personal contact with all my customers, and I try to realize their wishes. All customers can expect reliable communication during the ordering procedure, delivery on time, and high-quality ingredients in my products,” she says.

Her commitment goes beyond taste. “There is more than just good taste behind every single piece…there are many thoughts and ideas that are planned in advance down to the smallest detail, many attempts to achieve the perfect recipe, and above all, all the love and passion of the baker.”

Why Cambodia and Why Now?

Julia’s connection to Cambodia goes deeper than her business. “The locals inspire me so much with their warmth and cordiality. Cambodia is already my second home,” she shares. With her business growing steadily, she’s now expanding her offerings to include workshops for children and adults.

“The first workshops are already being planned, and so the first cookie-decorating courses will take place in Siem Reap in the next few days and weeks,” Julia announces. These workshops are designed to create joy and connection through baking. “Being creative together, learning new skills, and spending time together with joy and fun is what makes us happy.”

Highlights and the Road Ahead

Julia thrives on feedback from her customers, drawing energy and inspiration from their satisfaction. “I am especially happy when the customer is satisfied and when they liked it. I am so grateful for all the lovely feedback I have received about my baked goods so far.”

She’s also embracing new challenges, such as experimenting with vegan recipes. “I am currently trying out vegan recipes and would like to thank my dear vegan customers for their great ideas, support, and criticism,” she says.

Looking ahead, Julia hopes to continue growing her small business while staying true to her values. “It’s so important to support small businesses and to support each other. Together we can achieve so much more.”

What Makes Zabolicious Special?

Julia’s handmade approach and dedication to quality set her apart. Every cake, dessert, and cookie is carefully crafted, balancing sweetness with lightness. “The most important ingredients are my passion and love,” she says.

Her focus on personal connections and creating unique experiences makes Zabolicious more than just a bakery. It’s a celebration of tradition, creativity, and community.

Giving Back to the Community

Through her workshops and business, Julia brings a unique flavor to Cambodia’s culinary scene. By teaching others and creating shared experiences, she adds value to the community and diversifies the activities available in the country.

“Cambodia is such an inspiring place,” Julia says, reflecting on her journey. “I’m happy to have the chance to give back to the loving Cambodian people who welcomed me so warmly.”

Why Zabolicious?

If you’re looking for more than just a sweet treat, Zabolicious offers a slice of Julia’s passion and creativity. Her handmade, high-quality baked goods are crafted with care, and her workshops promise to bring people together in a fun and meaningful way.

With her love for baking and deep appreciation for Cambodia, Julia is proving that passion, tradition, and innovation can create something truly special. As she puts it, “There’s nothing better than passing on joy and pleasure to loving people.”Explore Zabolicious today and experience the love, creativity, and happiness baked into every piece.

Bamboo Craft Cambodia: A Sustainable Journey of Craftsmanship and Community https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/bamboo-craft-cambodia/ Wed, 09 Oct 2024 01:39:16 +0000 https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/?p=13347

Cambodia Lifestyle recently sat down with Oswald, the founder of Bamboo Craft Cambodia, a family business nestled in the scenic province of Kampot. Originally from Poland, Oswald’s journey to Cambodia began in 2021, when he was captivated by the country’s natural beauty, rich culture, and the warmth of its people. “I was instantly captivated by the country’s natural beauty, rich culture, and welcoming people,” Oswald recalls. But his connection to Cambodia grew deeper when he met a “life partner,” and together they now have a young son who brings them “so much joy.”

In October 2022, Oswald officially launched Bamboo Craft Cambodia, applying his mechanical engineering background to create bamboo fences. “As a mechanical engineer by trade, this felt like a natural fit for my skill set and interests,” Oswald explains. While the initial focus was on Cambodia’s booming tourism industry, Oswald soon realized his true passion lay in developing sustainable, eco-friendly products that could benefit the local community.

However, the early days of the business were not without challenges. “The first year of operations was challenging,” Oswald admits. “Understanding the local mindset and building connections with the right people was a constant learning process.” Coming from Europe, Oswald had to navigate cultural differences, but his determination paid off. “I was determined to assemble a team of dedicated, eager-to-learn local employees who could help bring my vision to life.”

Now, after two years in operation, Bamboo Craft Cambodia is thriving. “Our dream is to continue developing innovative, high-quality bamboo products that showcase the incredible natural resources of this region,” Oswald shares. One of their proudest achievements so far is the launch of their 100% sustainable and recyclable bamboo fencing products.

Looking to the future, Oswald is excited about Bamboo Craft Cambodia’s expansion into bamboo furniture and lifestyle products in 2024. “This diversification will allow us to reach new markets and make an even greater impact,” he says with optimism. Sustainability remains at the heart of everything they do. “Bamboo is a renewable, biodegradable resource that aligns perfectly with our values and goals. We take great pride in creating unique, handcrafted products that not only look beautiful but also contribute to a greener, more eco-friendly future.”

INTERWOVEN Atelier: Weaving Fashion with Sustainability in Phnom Penh https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/interwoven-atelier/ Tue, 08 Oct 2024 01:44:49 +0000 https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/?p=13320

Meet Jess, the co-founder of INTERWOVEN Atelier, a small-batch, slow fashion brand in Phnom Penh. With a background in marine biology and conservation, Jess’s journey into fashion might seem unexpected, but her passion for sustainability ties it all together. After five years in Cambodia, working across sectors like energy conservation, waste management, and marine conservation, she found herself longing for a creative outlet.

“I had zero experience in fashion or entrepreneurship,” Jess admits. “The brand was born out of a longing to create. Clothing, to me, is more than just fabric. It’s an expression of who I am, how I feel, and an important opportunity to wear my values.” She began by sourcing deadstock material and partnering with local tailors to make pieces for her own wardrobe, which eventually grew into INTERWOVEN Atelier.

The brand’s name reflects its ethos: “INTERWOVEN refers to the intricate and interconnected relationships within an ecosystem. Highlighting the concept that elements of nature are intimately tied together, where each rely deeply on one another to maintain harmony.” This philosophy drives the business, which embraces small-batch production, intentionality in design, and a commitment to sustainability.

Slow Fashion, Thoughtful Choices

Officially launched in April 2024, INTERWOVEN Atelier is a true slow fashion brand, valuing conscious creation over following fleeting trends. Jess emphasizes the importance of thoughtful design: “Our collections are created with longevity and low impact in mind, prioritizing versatility. The pieces are simple enough to complement your current wardrobe and provide more freedom for creative exploration.”

One of the brand’s core principles is encouraging consumers to be more selective with their purchases. “I believe in investing in quality over quantity and cherishing those chosen items. With the right love and care, your items can last a lifetime, reducing our carbon, chemical, and water footprints too,” Jess explains.

Her dream is to unite her passion for the natural world with fashion by exploring natural dyes and botanical printing to celebrate Cambodia’s biodiversity. “We have some brilliant ethical and sustainable clothing brands in Phnom Penh, but I felt there was a gap for merging these values with a fun, feminine, and elegant feel—while maintaining affordability and accessibility.”

Sustainable Sourcing and Community Impact

Jess’s passion for sustainability is evident in every aspect of INTERWOVEN Atelier, from fabric sourcing to production practices. One of her favorite parts of the job is exploring O’Russey Market, “sifting through the huge amounts of textiles as if on a treasure hunt.” Cambodia’s garment sector produces around 140,000 tonnes of textile waste annually, and INTERWOVEN Atelier is committed to using 100% deadstock materials in their collections. “Deadstock are the leftovers from production errors or canceled orders that usually end up in landfills. We select only natural fiber deadstock, and the exciting part is that they’re often unique—you won’t find them elsewhere!”

INTERWOVEN Atelier also places a strong emphasis on supporting local artisans. “Handcrafting is an act of nurturing culture, and the essence is woven into pieces by those who make them. We work with family-run tailor shops in Phnom Penh, conserving Cambodian tradition while contributing to the local economy.” Jess ensures that artisans are paid a fair price, set by the tailors themselves, with no negotiation or haggling involved.

Form, Function, and Feminine Elegance

The clothing at INTERWOVEN Atelier is designed with busy women in mind. As Jess puts it, “If I couldn’t ride my moto while wearing an item, the design had to be adjusted or discontinued.” The balance between comfort and elegance is central to the brand’s design philosophy, with fit and feel being crucial elements.

Each piece is crafted based on Jess’s own body and then adjusted for other sizes. “Women’s figures change monthly, yearly, and throughout our lives, so our designs reflect this,” she says. The pieces are either flowy, gracefully draping, or feature drawstrings and soft elastic waistlines for a custom fit.

Why Choose INTERWOVEN Atelier?

For those looking to shop more sustainably, INTERWOVEN Atelier fills an important gap in the Phnom Penh fashion scene. Jess’s commitment to thoughtful design, sustainability, and supporting local artisans sets the brand apart. As she explains, “We must become more mindful consumers. Through INTERWOVEN, I hope to inspire people to pursue ways to reduce their impacts—the future of our planet depends on it.”

For Jess, creating INTERWOVEN Atelier has been a way to weave together her love for nature, fashion, and sustainability. As the brand grows, she hopes to continue exploring new ways to incorporate Cambodia’s natural beauty into her designs.

ReMade in Cambodia: A Journey of Creativity, Sustainability, and Empowerment https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/remade-in-cambodia/ Sat, 28 Sep 2024 11:49:05 +0000 https://www.cambodialifestyle.com/?p=13274

We don’t know if you’ve heard, but a visionary platform is transforming textile waste into opportunity and empowerment in the Kingdom. Introducing ReMade in Cambodia, founded by Alyssa during her time as a Fulbright Scholar, a powerful new actor bringing together a combination of fashion, sustainability, and community development.

We caught up with Alyssa to learn more about how turning discarded textiles into wearable art, ReMade in Cambodia is tackling environmental challenges while uplifting young local artists.

From Vision to Reality

“I started ReMade in Cambodia to address several pressing issues: the environmental damage caused by textile waste, the lack of economic empowerment for vulnerable communities, and the absence of adequate support for local Cambodian artists,” Alyssa explains. The platform’s origins lie in a simple yet powerful idea—using waste to spark creativity and create opportunity. Since its inception in 2021, ReMade in Cambodia has grown from a small project into a dynamic organization that champions a circular fashion economy in Cambodia.

Now, ReMade in Cambodia runs workshops, fashion shows, and partners with indigenous groups such as the Bunong people. The organization collaborates with the Cambodian Handicraft Association, providing employment opportunities for women with disabilities. Alyssa’s role, too, has evolved, as she juggles managing textile waste, fostering partnerships, supporting young designers, and building a space where Khmer culture and sustainability intersect.

“My role has transformed from focusing primarily on managing textile waste to creating partnerships, supporting young designers, and building a space where Khmer culture and environmental sustainability can thrive together.”

Addressing Urgent Issues

The fashion and textile industries are among the world’s most polluting sectors, contributing significantly to Cambodia’s environmental degradation. Textiles make up 20% of waste in Cambodia’s rivers and 60% of industrial waste on land, threatening ecosystems, wildlife, and exacerbating climate change. Vulnerable communities bear the brunt of these impacts, with few avenues for economic empowerment. At the same time, local artists are often underrepresented, lacking platforms for growth and recognition.

ReMade in Cambodia takes a holistic approach to address these challenges. Its mission goes beyond waste management—it seeks to create a sustainable fashion economy rooted in Khmer culture. Through initiatives like ReImagine, a platform that raises awareness about upcycling, and Pteah ReMade, a creative hub for designers and artisans, the organization offers opportunities for innovation and education.

“We’re empowering youth to lead in sustainable fashion while celebrating their culture and creativity,” says Alyssa. Upcoming plans include scaling the programs further and creating more community outreach events, such as fashion shows and workshops, that inspire action.

A Passionate Team with a Purpose

At the heart of ReMade in Cambodia is a team of passionate, creative individuals. “We’re not just coworkers; we’re a community that supports each other to be our most authentic selves,” Alyssa emphasizes. The organization is built on core values like artistic expression, youth empowerment, sustainability, inclusivity, and cultural celebration. These values are embedded in every aspect of the platform, from the collection of textile waste to the fashion runway.

“Our work environment is built on these values, and it’s what keeps us motivated and inspired every day,” Alyssa says.

Innovative Solutions for Sustainability

ReMade in Cambodia offers innovative solutions for individuals and businesses looking to engage with sustainability. Through programs like ReMake Circular Textile, which partners with businesses to transform their textile waste, and ReAct, which educates youth about waste reduction and upcycling, the organization is driving change on multiple levels.

“We help people understand their role in protecting the environment, and we empower them to take action—whether that’s through fashion shows, upcycling workshops, or hands-on experiences,” Alyssa shares. “And most importantly, we make the journey toward sustainability fun and engaging for everyone involved.”

Impact on Cambodia’s Future

ReMade in Cambodia is not only contributing to environmental sustainability but also diversifying the creative landscape in the country. The organization provides a platform for young Cambodian artists to raise awareness about sustainability through their designs, empowering them to contribute to a circular fashion economy.

“We’re creating new ways for people to engage with sustainability and Cambodian art,” Alyssa explains. “Whether it’s through fashion shows, workshops, or community outreach, we’re upcycling not just clothes, but ideas, opportunities, and communities for a more sustainable Cambodia.”

A Deep Connection to Cambodia

For Alyssa, Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community have been a constant source of inspiration. “There’s something incredibly inspiring about the resilience and creativity of the people here, especially the younger generation,” she says. “Cambodia’s heritage, from its art to its textiles, is a wellspring of tradition that fuels our work at ReMade.”

Setting up ReMade in Cambodia felt like a natural step, given the country’s growing momentum around sustainable practices. “There’s a unique opportunity to weave environmental responsibility with cultural expression,” Alyssa reflects. “It’s the energy and spirit of Cambodia that keeps us motivated every day.”

As ReMade in Cambodia continues to grow, its dream of a future where every discarded textile becomes an opportunity for creativity, community empowerment, and sustainability is steadily becoming a reality.
